I read somewhere, but cannot locate it now - something to do with how a bio parent should be referred. I think I read that it is not okay to use the term "birth mother and/or father" or "natural". What is the suggested terminology? I have seen birth mother, natural mother, biological or bio mother, and first mother all used here. Plus abbreviations b-mother, n-mother, etc. I've seen on other forums certain mothers object to one term or another. Some object to all except just "mother." I don't think there's any consensus, except that the agencies all use "birth mother" (I think it originated with them), and mothers themselves don't want to be called by the abbreviation "BM."

and mothers themselves don't want to be called by the abbreviation "BM." You really can't blame them for that one.

Is it possible to have this list somewhere public that we can link to when posting elsewhere? It's a great resource.

This section of the board should be set to public. I left it open so anyone having issues with membership had a way to contact us.
We could possible also create a list for the blog page.

I'm brand new to this forum and to the idea of speaking to and having access to this many other people who share my experiences. I've just learned so much about myself and the culture just from a post of acronyms and terms. Thank you for this timeless information

Thank you for posting this. I am also new and had started to hear some of these terms, esp BSE. Nice to know what people are referring to!
