For the past few days the heading at the top of the forum home page says “Not Secure-Adult Adoptee Support.” It never said this before. I wonder if it is anything to be concerned about?

It used to say http. Browsers are now changing this to "Not secure". Nothing has changed except the display. A secure (encrypted) connection used to be called https. We use freeforums.net to provide us with the forum functionality. They control the connection type (http/https).
So what does this mean? Potentially a "bad guy" could intercept net traffic into the forum. This is unlikely but possible.

It just means ProBoards hasn't updated their security/encryption software so that your browser can recognise it as safe. Unless someone hacks in, it's still fine.
