Hi Everyone! I am wondering if anyone participates in an adult support group? I am working with a therapist who is wonderful, but I think an adoptee support group might be good for me. It is nice to hear other adoptee's stories.

Yes, I've been involved with two groups. One is the Buffalo, NY chapter of Adoptees Connect. The other is a group in Rochester, NY that isn't affiliated with any larger organization. I think the Rochester group has collapsed during the COVID lockdowns. I hope it will be revived.

Pre-Covid I had tried a group on Long Island, but they had meetings at night about an hour west of where I live. I don’t drive at night any more. The meetings were too late, anyway. Then Covid happened and I think they disbanded.

I'm from the UK and have not been able to find any support groups near to me or far for that matter. I would be interested to know if there are any people living in the UK on this site who do attend a support group.

Hence why I found this group and I’m also on an Adoptees & Addiction forum that meets on Zoom weekly based in the US. Whereabouts are you in the Uk?

I am just sorting myself out some therapy. I had some several years ago and it was a complete disaster with the therapist telling me after several sessions that I was too hard to reach and ending our time. It's taken a long time for me to try again but I have to try as I am so weary of feeling as I do. This person says they specialise in adoptees. I'm not normally a group person but I just have a feeling that an adoptee support group might work well for me. I have had decades of thinking and being told that I am just over sensitive, so being in a space with others who feel some of the same things I do might be what I need. This forum has been a big revelation for me.

I’m training as a therapist so know how vital it is to get the adequate support. I’m not a group person either but this forum and the zoom chats have been a complete lifesaver! Feel free to pm me if you want to connect. Happy to help anyway I can 😊
